Our district has collaborated on all aspects of the Piner renovation project with the lead contractor, Schrudde and Zimmerman. During all communication and even as recently as this morning, Schrudde and Zimmerman assured the district that Piner would be ready to start school this Wednesday. Unfortunately, late this afternoon we received communication that due to subcontracting issues Piner will not be ready for school on August 17th. The first day of instruction for Piner will be Tuesday, August 23rd. The first day of Preschool will still be Wednesday, August 24th. The district builds in additional time (five days) in our calendar before using Non Traditional Instruction (NTI) days as a district. Piner will utilize four of these built in to start the school year. It is important to note that the district operational support staff have worked tirelessly to include overtime and weekends, however Schrudde and Zimmerman did not meet their obligations to our school district, our Piner Community and most importantly to our Piner kids. We regret that we are not able to start instruction on time for our Piner community but we remain convinced that the 2023 school year will be world class due to our amazing Piner team, our amazing Piner kids, families and community.
