Academic Team
Students who choose to participate on the Academic Team can choose to compete on the quick recall team, the future problem solving team, a test taking event or a writing competition. Quick recall is a game that tests your knowledge. Student teams of four are asked content knowledge questions in the areas of math, language, social studies, science and arts. Students are given ten seconds to buzz in with their answer. We compete with schools all over Kenton County as well as in our Northern Kentucky Academic League Region. Matches occur once a week from January until March with two Governor’s Cup Competitions. Practice will be once a week from November to March. Sponsor is Jennifer Bay .
Archery team meets two times a week to gain knowledge and skills in the sport of Archery. Archery is governed by NASP. Tournaments take place throughout November to March. Archery Team is for grades 4th and 5th. Archery Club is a short one month introduction to archery and is available for 3rd grade students. Sponsor is Mr. Keith.
Basketball- 4th and 5th Grade Boys and Girls
The basketball program is for 4th and 5th grade boys and girls and runs February to April. There are typically 6-8 games in the season played at area elementary schools.
Cheerleading
Cheerleading is available to 4th and 5th graders. They have one practice a week and will cheer at the home team games for the basketball games.
Future Problem Solving
FPS, Future Problem Solving, is an internationally recognized, award winning program that encourages critical thinking. FPS fosters investigation, ingenuity, creativity, and cooperative learning. The sponsor is Kara Gilvin.
Nature Explorers Club
Nature Explorers Club is designed for Grades 4th & 5th. We learn about plants and trees that are native to our area as well as perennial and annual flowers. We work on updating and keeping our courtyard and front flower beds beautiful for all to enjoy. Sponsor is Tina Warren.
Piner Piglets
STLP
The Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) trains students to become increasingly fluent with using various types of technology. In STLP, students will develop multimedia projects for programs at Piner Elementary and even lead a training session on the latest updates for some of the technology available to the classroom teachers. This year, STLP will be led by Mrs. Blaze and will be open to fourth and fifth grade students. STLP Website
